About Us - The SecondLife Story
Hi guys and thanks for being here :) Allow us to introduce ourselves.
We are Mark and Katie - a husband and wife duo from the Central Coast of NSW. SecondLife Recrafted is our third baby (after our two little ones under seven) that we started in early 2022. Previously just an idea that we had talked about for years, the sudden loss of someone close to us reminded us that there is truly no time like the present to do anything we want to do in this life, and we decided to no longer wait to make that idea a reality.
Mark is a carpenter by trade who has worked in the construction industry for over 20 years. He has always been frustrated with the amount of timber he has seen go to waste on construction sites, and as a self-confessed timber nerd and lover of beautiful grains, has always wanted to find a way to ensure that timbers with plenty of life left in them don’t always end up in landfill. Mark loves and appreciates the history of what each piece of old timber once was, and that was something we he wanted to honour and preserve when recrafting with recycled materials. The sole maker of all of our SecondLife pieces, his love and passion for woodworking is reflected in the quality of his craftsmanship.
Katie - that’s me - was a primary school teacher for 12 years before switching to this small-biz gig and I am also currently a fourth year Psychology student. I am the admin/communications/marketing /social media/website/orders end of the operation, and am also the history researcher and writer of each piece’s backstory. Mark calls me the General Manager of the business, but that’s still a title I’m not quite willing to take on.
This little adventure has taken us a little bit by surprise and has so far exceeded all of our expectations of what it could become. If you’d like to know a little more about us, this awesome little write-up from Coasties Mag - https://coastiesmag.com.au/secondlife-recrafted/ - from the early days has a little more to say. We are really grateful for all the support that our little business has received so far - Thank you all so, so much :) We are still having so much fun with it and we are really looking forward to seeing where it continues to take us.
